I am so pleased to be able to spend time with your child this year! Sixth grade is a big change from elementary school, but we do all we can to help your child with the adjustment. Your child is on a GREAT team...I love and respect my fellow teachers on Team A!
Now for my background...
I attended Kentwood schools (Meadowlawn, Bowen, Valleywood, and EKHS), as did my children. My daughter is a CMU graduate and earned her Master of Social Work degree from Wayne State. She is now a Youth Therapist. After attending GRCC and CMU, my son is now a Navy Corpsman, working in the laboratory of a Naval Hospital. Both of my children were in band, so I have not given up my ties to that...I still try to help with Marching Band camp when I can. I never wanted to be a pet owner, but I inherited the best dog (Obi) and the best kitty (Zydeco) I could ever imagine. I liked them so much that when my daughter took Zydeco to college with her, I adopted sister kitties: Stella and Nola. Who knew I would become THAT person?!
I graduated from Aquinas College (BS), MSU (MBA), and Aquinas again (MSE). I always wanted to teach, so when the opportunity arose for a career change, I took the plunge. It turned out to be my best career decision ever.
My teaching background has been varied during my 20 years in the district. I have taught kindergarten (Townline), 1st and 4th grades (Bowen), and now 6th grade at Pinewood. This is my 11th year here. While I have enjoyed each teaching assignment and school along the way, I am a middle school teacher at heart - there is no better place than at Pinewood (nor grade) I would rather teach. My original position here was ELA, so I bring those same expectations into my science class and continue to reinforce those important reading and writing skills.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
I am looking forward to a wonderful year!
